Origin Brand Consultants was asked by Shire Pharmaceuticals to develop a name for their new 'phosphate binder' treatment for hyperphosphataemia.

Origin generated numerous candidates suggestive of the functional benefits of the new treatment. The tradename Fosrenol was selected as the most appropriate descriptive name, incorporating easily recognised elements of ‘phosphate’ and ‘renal’.
